J.D. BURNETT | Artistic Director
J.D. Burnett enjoys a varied career as a conductor, singer, and teacher. He is Assistant Professor of Music and Associate Director of Choral Activities at the University of Georgia Hugh Hodgson School of Music, where he conducts the Men’s and Women’s Glee Clubs and the Collegium Musicum, and teaches courses in choral literature and conducting.
Formerly, he served as Assistant Director of the Dallas Symphony Chorus, conducted New Jersey Youth Chorus Young Men’s Ensemble, was Associate Conductor of the Masterwork Chorus of New Jersey, and was Acting Director of Choral Activities at Montclair State University. His earlier posts include Interim Director of Choral Activities at San Jose State University, Artistic Director of the New Jersey Chamber Singers, Music Director of the Houston Masterworks Chorus, Founder of Men’s Consort Houston, and member of the choral music faculty at Kingwood High School in suburban Houston. He also served as Choral Editor at McGraw-Hill, Inc.
Burnett did undergraduate study at Stanford University and Oklahoma State University. He holds a Masters Degree in Choral Conducting from Westminster Choir College, where he sang in the Westminster Symphonic Choir and Westminster Kantorei, and served as Assistant Conductor of the renowned Westminster Choir. He holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, where he conducted the Concert Choir and taught undergraduate conducting.
As a professional choral singer, Burnett has performed seasons, concerts, and recordings with the Stillwater Chamber Singers, Cantare Houston, The Santa Fe Desert Chorale, The Robert Shaw Festival Singers, Fuma Sacra, the Choir of Trinity Church Wall Street, the Oregon Bach Festival Chorus, and Conspirare.
REID MASTERS | Assistant Conductor
Reid Masters attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ where he graduated Summa cum Laude with Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees in Sacred Music in addition to being named a Rider scholar. His musical endeavors began in Texas at the age of 5 with piano lessons which continued through his undergraduate education, when he was awarded the Arthur Judson Scholarship for earning 1st place in Westminster’s piano competition.
Now, trained as a countertenor, Reid currently studies with Laura Heimes, and has been the guest soloist for various choirs around New Jersey featuring repertoire such as Bernstein’s Chichester Psalms, Handel’s Messiah, Schütz’ Musikalische Exequien, Gesualdo’s Tenebrae Responsories, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri, Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater, and Bach’s St. Matthew Passion. He has performed with some of the world’s finest baroque musicians such as violinist, Nancy Wilson and orchestras such as the Brandywine Baroque Band and The Sebastians. In choral settings, Reid has sung with some of the world’s finest orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic under the direction of conductors such as Maestros Lorin Maazel, Kurt Mazur, Alan Gilbert, and Nicholas McGegan.
Reid has studied choral conducting with Joseph Flummerfelt, Andrew Megill, Joe Miller, Daniel Bara, Sun Min Lee, Dale Warland, Timothy Brown, and James Jordan. He has led choral workshops and master classes for various high school choirs throughout New Jersey in addition to the Taichung Chamber Singers in Taiwan. Reid currently serves as the Director of Music at The Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury, NJ and he is the co-founder and assistant director of Kinnara Ensemble. In addition, Reid is also the Artistic Director of the New Jersey Chamber Singers who were recently invited to perform in Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. He is currently pursuing a DMA in choral conducting at Rutgers University with Patrick Gardner.
